EXTREMELY RARE Portuguese translation of a classic in the field of Jewish historiography. Although he died more than 70 years ago, Simon Dubnow is still considered one of the most important and influential Jewish historians. Amongst other brilliant historical researches, this vast work covers all periods of the history of Jewish people, from its very beginnings until the rise of the Nazis in Germany. At the beginning of each chapter, the book contains a b&w plate depicting a motif that represents this chapter. Several of these plates show graphic works by the famous Jewish painter E. M. Lilien, who gained a lot of praise for his portrayal of Jewish-religious motifs. Additionally included are one engraved plate showing the publisher`s logo and one mounted plate depicting a biblical illustration. The book contains the translator`s dedication to David Shaltiel (1903-1969) - the commander of the Intelligence Service of "Haganah" who fought in and around Jerusalem during the War of Independence, colonel and the Israeli ambassador in different countries, including Brasil and Venezuela in the years 1952-1956. 275x190mm. 534 pages.
