תיאור הספר
RARE FACSIMILE EDITION of a volume containing reduced plans, elevations and sections of The Crystal Palace - a cast-iron and plate-glass structure originally built in Hyde Park, London, to house the Great Exhibition of 1851. More than 14,000 exhibitors from around the world gathered in its huge exhibition space to display examples of technology developed in the Industrial Revolution. Designed by Joseph Paxton, the Great Exhibition building was three times larger than the size of St Paul`s Cathedral, with the greatest area of glass ever seen in a building, astonishing visitors with its clear walls and ceilings that did not require interior lights. Although the sub-title specifies 28 plates, when the book was published it included only 27 plates (and so also in this reprint edition). 300x215mm. IV+45 pages & 27 fold-out plates. Illustrated yellow Softcover. Cover and spine slightly stained and rubbed. Cover bottom corners and edge slightly bumped/wrinkled. Spine edges bumped. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare facsimile edition of the only surviving reference book for the accurate knowledge and appreciation of the renowned structure, of great interest to architects and historians, is in good condition.
