This book was widely used throughout the Francophone world and adapted into English as "Moral and Religious Tales for the young of the Hebrew faith". Contains 4 b&w plates. 185x115mm. [XXIII+271] + [262] pages. Brown/black marbled board Hardcover with black gilt leather spine. Cover corners slightly worn. Cover edges worn and partly peeling. Cover and spine heavily rubbed (rear cover partly peeling). Spine edges worn and peeling. Spine hinges partly cracked and glued. Library stamp on pre-title and title page, and last page (262). Ink inscription on front whitepage upper corner. Pages 11-14 of vol.1 fore edge slightly tattered - NO damage to text. Fore edge bottom part of vol.2 semi-transparent protective sheet (bound between frontispiece and title-page) partly torn/missing (though still covering the plates). Few pages slightly age-stained. Pages yellowing and wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare illustrated first edition of a pious and patriotic manual written by one of the most influential 19th-century French-Jewish writers is overall in good condition.
