RARE historical monograph on the work of the Society of Friends for refugees and aliens by the published historian Lawrence Darton (1914-2008), who registered as a conscientious objector at the start of the Second World War and undertook service with the Friends` Ambulance Unit working in hospitals in London`s East End, later becaming secretary to the Friends` Relief Service. This publication was printed on manual typewriter and thus some letters of the text are lighter than others and seem faded. 255x205mm. IV+170 pages (text is printed on one side of the pages only, thus, there are altogether 348 pages, half of which are with text). Blue cloth Hardcover with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Cover slightly curved. Cover stained. Cover corners, spine edges and hinges rubbed. Spine slightly stained. Text block edges yellowing and slightly stained. Few pages edge slightly stained - NO damage to text. Pages slightly yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare historical report is otherwise in good condition.
