RARE edition of Schiller`s "Song of the Bell" with 42 full-page marvelous b&w illustrations drawn on wood by Thomas Scott and engraved by J.D.Cooper after designs by the influential German painter and etcher Moritz Retzch (1779-1857), known for his illustrations for Goethe`s Faust published by Cotta publishing house. 225x280mm. 30 text pages & 42 full-page plates on separate pages. Dark blue embossed gilt Hardcover. Gilt spine and text block edges. Cover rubbed and stained/dirty. Cover edges bumped and worn. Cover corners bumped and peeling. Spine rubbed. Spine edges bumped and tattered. title page and several first pages slightly age-stained. Plates 35-37 slightly creased in the middle. Plates age-stained. Pages slightly yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare album of magnificent engravings by one of the leading 19th-century etchers is in good condition.
