RARE LIMITED EDITION - COPY No.274. SIGNED WITH DEDICATION BY EMMANUEL MANE-KATZ (1894-1962) - a Jewish artist born in Lithuania who relocated to Paris in the age of 19, where he became friends with Pablo Picasso and other important artists, and was affiliated with an art movement known as the Jewish School of Paris. In 1931, Mane-Katz`s painting, "The Wailing Wall," was awarded a gold medal at the Paris World`s Fair. After escaping from a Nazi prison at the beginning of WW2, Mane-Katz went to New York where he spent the war years, and finally immigrated to Israel four years prior to his death. Mane-Katz is best known for his depictions of the Jewish shtetl in Eastern Europe. Contains many color and b&w plates, including Picasso`s portrait of Mane-Katz as frontispiece. 250x190mm. 118 pages [+6]. Softcover. Book almost disbound (though holding by threads). Spine missing. Front cover detached, rear cover missing. Front cover worn/torn and stained. Edges of few pages/plates worn - no damage to text or plates. Pages almost disbound and yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare monograph on the life and works of a major 20th-century Jewish artist of the Paris school, signed and dedicated by him, has suffered some damage to cover and binding, but internally is still in good condition.
