SIGNED WITH DEDICATION BY EMMANUEL MANE-KATZ (1894-1962) - a Jewish artist born in Lithuania who relocated to Paris in the age of 19, where he became friends with Pablo Picasso and other important artists, and was affiliated with an art movement known as the Jewish School of Paris. In 1931, Mane-Katz`s painting, "The Wailing Wall," was awarded a gold medal at the Paris World`s Fair. After escaping from a Nazi prison at the beginning of WW2, Mane-Katz went to New York where he spent the war years, and finally immigrated to Israel four years prior to his death. Mane-Katz is best known for his depictions of the Jewish shtetl in Eastern Europe.
