Description
A highly-influential book in the development of the Israeli art, this uniquely decorated volume of silhouettes created by Bezalel (Betzalel) artist Meir Gur-Aryeh, accompanied by the popular songs of the Third Aliyah period inside decorative frames, depicts the life and vision of the road-building Chalutzim in images and words. The silhouettes, a popular form of Jewish folk-art, has been utilized by Gur-Aryeh to create vivid scenes of work and rest which has served to influence the work of many other Israeli artists associated with the Bezalel Academy or with the Kibbutz Movement. The book has been edited and prefaced by Mordehai Narkiss, the first curator of the first Israeli museum. The book has no English title page. 235x155mm, 20 enumerated pages. Beautifully rebound maroon hardcover. Title page and page 9 stained (slight damage to text, not to silhouette). Some page edges also stained. Title page dog-eared. Title and last pages upper edge slightly tattered. In spite of some stain damage to few pages, the contents of this beautiful piece of Jewish-Israeli history have been preserved in good condition. We offer the book at a considerably reduced price!
