Description
2 VOLUME SET SIGNED BY AUTHOR (with dedication in Arabic) and a postcard (written in English to Joshua Blau, professor emeritus of Arabic Languages and Literature at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the former President of the Academy of the Hebrew Language). These rare 2 volumes comprise the critical edition and Spanish translation of `Kitab al-Muhadarah wal-Mudhakarah`, a medieval treatise on rhetoric and poetry by Moses ibn Ezra (1055/1060-after 1138), a Spanish-Jewish philosopher, linguist and poet. This treatise, the only work of its kind in Hebrew literature, is written at the request of ibn Ezra`s friend, who addresses 8 questions (corresponding to the 8 chapters of the treatise) on Hebrew poetry to the author. 220x155mm. [LIV+326]+[374] pages. [BOTH VOLUMES]: Softcover with dust-jacket. Jacket upper edge slightly tattered. Jacket and jacket edges somewhat worn. [VOL.I]: Rear cover bottom edge slightly bumped. Spine bottom edge partly torn. [VOL.II]: Cover slightly creased. Cover, spine and most pages bottom edge bumped. Spine edges bumped, upper edge slightly tattered. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare critical edition and translation of a fascinating treatise on rhetoric by Moses Ibn Ezra is in good condition.
