COMPLETE TWO VOLUME SET of a famous account of the Royal Danish expedition (1761-1767) to the Arabian Peninsula led by a renowned German mathematician, cartographer, and explorer in the service of Denmark - Carsten Niebuhr (1733-1815), and from which he returned as the only survivor. Niebuhr is also famous for his maps of Yemen, Oman, the Arab Gulf, Suez and the Red Sea. This work is still one of the most authoritative descriptions of Arabia and Yemen. Contains 6 folding maps, numerous b&w illustrated plates, as well as texts in Arabic. [BOTH VOLUMES]: 220x245mm. 252+315 pages. Green rebound leather Hardcover. Gilt lettering on spine and cover edges. Marbled endpapers. Includes ribbon bookmark. Cover slightly stained. Cover spine and edges rubbed. Spine hinges slightly peeling. Cover corners bumped and worn. Ink inscription on first white page. Pages slightly wavy and yellowing. [VOL.I]: Ex-libris sticker on front cover upper corner. Stain on some pages extreme upper edge (no damage to text). [SUMMARY]: These extremely rare books are in very good condition for their age; maps, tables and illustrations are very well preserved.
