Description
SIGNED BY ARTIST - Hermann Struck. In this book, the German-Jewish author Zweig tries to give the so called "Ostjuden", Eastern European Jews who were greatly disliked in Germany, an estimable face. He is supported by 52 b&w plates mainly depicting portraits of "Ostjuden" drawn by Struck. This book was written as a reaction to the growing anti-Semitism in Europe and the observable tendency of the German Jews to distance themselves from the Eastern European Jews, in order to appear more "German". 182x261mm. 176 pages. Rebound red cloth hardcover with gilt lettering on front. Cover slightly stained. Spine edges slightly bumped. Page edges mildly browning. Top page edges gilt (faded). Struck`s signature and dedication dated 4.11.22 on whitepage. Several pages very slightly tattered on edge with no text missing. Few pages partly detached from binding. Three pages coming loose. Pages yellowing and slightly wavy. All pages and plates are free from stains. This book is in very good reading condition.
