This periodical was the main organ of the emerging Jewish Enlightenment (Haskalah) movement in the late 18th century. It was instrumental in raising awareness for the ideas and ideals of the Enlightenment, as well as establishing Neo-Hebrew as an academic and literary language. The issues feature works of literature, biographies of famous Jewish thinkers, world news and articles on natural science, philosophy, history and geography. The articles are accompanied by several b&w figures. This copy features the autograph of the previous owner, Moses (Moise) Friedland on the title page. 175x105mm. 181 pages (paginated 212-392).
