RARE German translation in prose of `Jerusalem Delivered` - an epic poem by the legendary 16th-century Italian poet Torquato Tasso (1544-1595), best known for this poem (in Italian - `Gerusalemme liberata`, first published in 1581). The poem is a highly imaginative version of the combats between Christians and Muslims at the end of the First Crusade, during the Siege of Jerusalem. Contains an introduction and a short biography of Torquato Tasso. Title page of each volume contains a small b&w engraving. 145x95mm. 276+278 pages. Half-cloth marbled Hardcover with gilt spine. Cover and spine rubbed. Cover edges worn. Cover bottom corners and spine edges slightly bumped. Spine slightly wrinkled. Spine hinges rubbed. Pages yellowing, age-stained and wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare and handsome edition of an old German translation of an influential epic Renaissance poem is overall in good condition.
