The author - Jean Joseph François Poujoulat (1808-1880), was an eminent French historian and journalist, author of `Bibliothèque des Croisades`, `Correspondence d`Orient` and `Nouvelle collection des mémoires pour servir à l`histoire de France depuis le XIIIe siècle jusqu`à la fin du XVIIIe` (all co-authored with Joseph François Michaud, with whom he traveled through European and Asiatic Turkey in the study of the scenes of the Crusades), as well as `Histoire de St.Augustin`. 215x145mm. 304+460 pages. Quarter-leather brown Hardcover with gilt spine. Cover and spine heavily rubbed. Cover damp-stained. Cover corners bumped and tattered/peeling. Cover edges somewhat peeling. Spine front hinge bottom part peeling. Small sticker with advertisement for the book on front endpaper upper corner/edge. Binding visible on inner cover. Ink inscription on front whitepage upper part. Violet pencil inscription on first title-page upper edge. Some plates and several pages detached from binding (but present!). Some pages age-stained. Pages yellowing and wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare 19th-century fascinating combination of a religio-philosophical study and a comprehensive history of Jerusalem is in good condition.
