Description
SIX VOLUMES BOUND IN TWO. This book in 6 parts on the Mosaic law is written by Johann David Michaelis (1717-1791) - the renowned German biblical scholar and teacher at Halle and Göttingen universities. Michaelis represents the link between Pietism and the beginnings of rationalism in Biblical theology, while he himself advocated, somewhat inconsistently, a moderately rationalistic orthodoxy. In "Mosaisches Recht" he interpreted the laws of the Pentateuch as the work of the statesmanlike wisdom of Moses, whose aim was the separation of Israel from the heathens. [BOTH VOLUMES]: 180x110mm. [VOL.I]: [399]+[480]+[276] / [VOL.II]: [386]+[330]+[190+419] pages. Hardcover with leather spine. Cover worn, spine stained and slightly worn, Previous owner`s name written in ink on first whitepage and also on title-pages of volumes 1 and 4 accompanied by little stamp. Sticker marks on front inner cover. Text block edges somewhat stained. Pages yellowing, some pages age-stained. [VOL.I]: Pencil marks on rear inner cover. [VOL.II]: Few last pages bottom edge water-stained. [SUMMARY]: This rare book by the famous representative of 18th century Protestant Biblical theology is in good condition for its age.
